A Grand View From Templin Gardens in Fergus (Photos)
The cliffs and riverbanks of the Grand River valley surround one of Fergus, Ontario’s most photographed landmarks: Templin Gardens.
The stone staircase has three landing points leading down to the river's edge. It's carved into the limestone banks of the gorge.
Visitors can get a close-up view of the river and sometimes spot the area's grey heron.

History of Templin Gardens
Templin Gardens was built in the 1920s and was named after Hugh Templin, owner and operator of the local newspaper during the early twentieth century, Fergus News-Record.
The Templin family name had been in Fergus since 1864.
The area was privately owned until July 2010 when it was purchased by The Township of Centre Wellington.

There is a trail that leads behind the Fergus Grand Theatre along the gorge walls parallel to downtown. There is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the river leading to shops, restaurants and a parking lot.
Gated Riverfront Access
Access to the riverfront is controlled by the Township.
The gate is closed to visitors during the winter months and during dangerous river conditions.
Volunteer-run Garden Maintenance
The Templin Gardens is maintained by the Fergus and District Horticultural Society.
The Fergus Horticultural Society is dedicated to preserving the horticultural heritage in Fergus, and our society members work hard to enhance our community’s natural beauty!
The non-profit society has been serving Fergus since 1857.
